Arizona’s archaeological and historic places hold stories worth protecting. We help give the volunteers who care for them the support they need to keep that work going.
Through fundraising, public awareness, and education, the Arizona Site Steward Program Foundation brings people together in support of Arizona’s cultural heritage.
The Foundation was established in 2017 by dedicated Arizona Site Stewards who wanted to build a lasting structure of support for the Arizona Site Steward Program and its mission of monitoring prehistoric and historic archaeological sites.
Today, we support the Program’s volunteers through funding, education, and community partnerships. We work alongside Program leadership, Regional Coordinators, land managers, Tribal partners, and Site Stewards to help sustain this shared work.

By building relationships among preservation groups, we encourage cooperation and promote respect for Native American history and cultural heritage.
We champion Arizona Project Archaeology and its interdisciplinary, science-based approach to learning. Its curriculum and educator resources help connect archaeology with an understanding of past and present cultures and the importance of preservation.
Explore Project Archaeology →The Foundation provides financial support for the biennial Site Steward Conference, a statewide training event coordinated by the Arizona Site Steward Program. The next conference is tentatively planned for fall 2027.
The conference brings volunteers together for seminars on safety, legislation, and site-monitoring procedures. It also offers a chance to share knowledge, build connections, and recognize the outstanding contributions of hardworking Site Stewards.
Our fundraising also supports learning opportunities and resources that help volunteers carry out their preservation work.
Arizona’s Site Stewards volunteer their time to monitor archaeological and historic sites and report damage to land managers. The Foundation helps sustain the training and community support behind their efforts.
